Dear Chamber Members:
There has been a change of plans for our September chamber luncheon. Our previously scheduled presentation “When Customers Attack” has been postponed and instead Steve Winter, CEO of Tethys, will present background and vision for the proposed beverage processing plant.
Yesterday Mr. Winters presented to our economic development division – his presentation helped to shed light and correct much of the misinformation that is out there on the project.
At this week’s city council meeting, the council decided to delay (for three weeks) a decision on whether or not to approve an application to the county to expand our urban growth area to include property, which will potentially be the home of Tethys. Opponents of this project for economic development will be holding public meetings in the weeks to come in hopes of encouraging more residents to write to their council members asking for the application to not go forth. I believe if more people understood the rationale behind locating this state-of-the-art facility and learned of the Tethys team’s commitment to the environment – then more citizens would encourage this process to move forward.
We don’t want to be the community that looks back at a project that was denied access before everything was understood and the process complete.
The lunch is Thursday, September 13 at 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Anacortes Lutheran Church.
